Google used its August 12 Made by Google event in New York to introduce the Pixel Watch 5 alongside the Pixel 11 phone lineup, its first time pairing a watch launch directly with a flagship phone launch rather than staggering the two. Pre-orders opened the same day, with the watch reaching stores on August 20, 2026.
Pricing and configurations
The Pixel Watch 5 comes in two case sizes, each available with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or LTE connectivity:

Every configuration costs more than its Pixel Watch 4 equivalent — the 41mm models are up $50 and the 45mm models are up $30. Google has attributed the increase largely to a sharp rise in memory component costs across its device lineup this year, rather than to the watch's feature set alone. The Stephen Curry Special Edition ships slightly later, on September 3, and pairs the standard 45mm hardware with an exclusive orange-and-grey sweat-wicking band and a matching watch face.
Design
Visually, the Pixel Watch 5 is nearly identical to its predecessor. The case sizes, dimensions, and dome-shaped silhouette all carry over unchanged, and the battery capacity increase inside hasn't added any noticeable bulk. At launch it's offered in four finishes — Matte Black, Polished Silver, and Satin Pyrite across both sizes, plus a Champagne Gold option exclusive to the 41mm case — and the band lineup has been refreshed with a new HNBR material. Wireless charging still relies on Google's proprietary charging puck rather than the Qi standard used by most competing watches.

What's new: GPS and health tracking
The headline feature is a cloud-based GPS post-processing system. Rather than relying solely on the watch's onboard GNSS chip during a workout, Google reprocesses the recorded track afterward using 3D building models, a ground-based GNSS reference station network, and corrections for atmospheric interference and signal reflection off buildings. Google says this produces route maps that are twice as accurate in dense urban environments and claims the result now outperforms both the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro for route accuracy in those conditions.
Health tracking sees the biggest expansion. A new Health Guardian system runs in the background to surface trends in blood pressure, insulin resistance, and sleep breathing quality over time, with the data organized in the Google Health app. The watch also adds Breathing Emergency Detection, which is rolling out in Europe first, along with a new Readiness Score and expanded sleep breathing quality metrics. On the software side, Gemini's on-watch capabilities have been expanded, and the watch introduces generative watch faces that can be created on the fly.
How it compares
At $399 to start, the Pixel Watch 5 now matches the entry price of the Apple Watch Series 11 and sits above the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, which starts at $379.99. Against its own predecessor, the case is unchanged, so the upgrade case rests almost entirely on the faster chip, doubled storage, expanded health tracking, and the new GPS post-processing — features that will matter most to runners, cyclists, and hikers who track routes in cities or under tree cover, and to anyone who wants deeper long-term health trend data. Owners of a Pixel Watch 4 who don't need this year's specific additions may be better served waiting, especially as Watch 4 pricing drops now that the newer model is out.
